Weekend Update

Not much to tell - same shit, different weekend. Saturday was going to be working in the office, but due to weather and my laziness, saw me relaxing instead. Sunday was no different, with shitty bowling to boot.

Yay.

Today, however is going to be different, as I need to get the truck inspected (*have* to do it before Wed.), take Gomez to the vet, get Viv her cigs, and mail off Steve's package.

Again, yay.

Prayer

For those who do:

Please pray for my father and mother. Currently, my father has yet another respiratory infection (worse than the last one) and desperately needs to sell his business so he can start concentrating on his health. Pray that he has the wisdom to accept an offer, even if it's not as much as "thinks its worth" (the proud fucker) and retire to a less stressful life. Pray that my mother has the strength to deal with his pain-in-the-ass self and not stress herself out working full time at one job and part time at the business. Pray that they can finally stop working so hard and relax. After all they have done for their family, for their church, and for their community, they deserve it.

FYI: Dad = 64 Mom = 62

Fun morning

After arriving at work this morning, got to watch a ship dock across the street. Big deal, you may say since you work on the Naval base, but it was today. It was one of Her Majesty's boats, that had a guy on the end playing the bagpipes as it docked.

Pretty cool.

Weekend Update

Friday:

Drinkies per usual and it was so good to see Melissa. Spent the rest of the evening watching movies and relaxing.

Saturday was the yard work day and I have the blisters to show for it. At least the front yard looks a site better, now I have to get my butt in the backyard. Maybe next weekend. Did finally get the latch on the shed so it closes properly now. More movies and some wine finished off the evening.

Sunday was brunch and bowling, which was pretty suckie the first two games, but made up for it in the third, thus making my average go up - again.

I did call my father Sunday morning, so as to catch him before he left for church to get my "Happy Father's Day" in. Talked with him briefly, then he said he'd call me back later that afternoon. This, of course, had me worried a bit. He never just wants to call and "chat" with me. He did call back later, talking about things going on and what his plans were for the not-so-distant future - worrying me even more. When the time comes when he sells his shop and they put the house up for sale, he wants to sit down with us three kids and have a talk about where they are going to live.

Again, I'm worried, but also wondering why either of them would need to consult us as to where they want to live. I mean, they can live any where they damn well please, as far as I'm concerned, just as long as I know where they are and how to get in touch with them. He did say that my mother likes northern Georgia, as Florida is too hot for both of them, even though both my brothers are/planning on living there.

I really think that he just misses all of us - including my asshole brother Jeff, who lives near them. Both myself and my oldest brother Jim live far away and don't think that either of us call as much as he'd like. My theory on one reason why he misses us so much, is the fact that he wasn't around a lot when we were kids. He wants to make up for lost time. Sound like a Jim Croce song anyone?

I know that we are waiting until after Monday to see what happens, I just thought that I would pass on that Steve will not be home in time to say goodbye if you go.

I received an email from him this morning/last night, and he said he'd be home in time for my birthday - but we'll see what happens.

Weekend Update

Thursday evening (the beginning of my weekend anyway):

Cancelled dinner due to the recovering of Bailey, who is back to her usual self today. Did end up having dinner with Bob, Mike, and Joe at Kelly's. Always good, though the loud mouth at the bar could have done without. Stopped at the Naro Video store and picked up Pitch Black (which I have seen before, but wanted to refresh my memory on) and The Haunted Mansion. Upon arriving home, watched said Pitch Black and realized that even though I've seen the movie half a dozen times, I've never seen the very beginning.

Friday:

Upon waking, decided to forgo the lawn work for the day that I had planned - mainly due to the fact that it rained the previous evening a good deal and that rain was still scheduled on and off for the day. Watched The Haunted Mansion and was pleasantly surprised. I had the expectation that this was going to be a bad movie - I mean seriously, it's a movie based on my favorite ride at Walt Disney World and there wasn't really a story involved within the ride itself. But it was pretty good considering. Probably would have been better without Eddie Murphy (who I do normally like, but he seemed over the top in this one), so I'll probably pick this one up the next time I'm at Joe's Wally World or Target.

After that movie, decided to make it a day of movies and ended up watching Breakfast at Tiffany's on Showtime, which I realized I've never seen the end of. It's a wonderful movie and I can't help falling in love with Audrey Hepburn all over again. She's probably one of my all time favorite actresses anyway, but she does a splendid performance in this one. Once this one was done, figured I'd get my happy butt up and into the shower, dress, and head out the door.

Ended up at the Regal Cinema at MacArthur Center, watching The Chronicles of Riddick (hence the Pitch Black the previous evening). For a semi-sort-of sequel, it was better than expected. I'm not a huge fan of Vin Diesel - though I don't mind drooling over his body - but he does a good job. He was made to be an action star and he doesn't disappoint. (I really wish he'd make a porn movie, but hey, at least he plays D&D - how cool is that!)

Then it was off to drinkies with Mike and Todd - forgeting all about being at home for Tony and Darrell to pick up the chainsaw. It was nice sitting back and relaxing for a bit before going over to the Naro video again - returning movies rented the previous evening and picking up two other rentals - Watching You and The First Season of Oz. Ended up watching the Watching You vid that evening. A nice collection of lesbian stories, with a bonus feature at the end.

Saturday:

Woke to the realization that no lawn work was getting done this weekend. Lazy and weather issues being the main factor, I popped the first season of Oz in and enjoyed a lovely day of some hot men and realizing that I hadn't seen any of them like I thought I did. Next Friday will see me picking up the second season - assuming it's in.

Of course, it was also Shel's game night - the most favored night of gaming for all. Once we figured out where the hell we were from the previous gaming session, we had a great time battling things out - both figuratively and literally. Of course, the night was made even better with some interesting eye candy that was around most of the night.

Sunday:

Brunch time - with no definitive answer from Chas - and then on to bowling. I did much better this week, bowling over my average all three games (and we took all 7!), but of course this means my average is going up for next week. After bowling, I went straight home, deciding that I was going to at least do something productive this weekend. Did get a bit of laundry done, dishes, and a spot of cleaning here and there.

All in all, a pretty good weekend. But still need to figure out when the lawn will get mowed. Maybe this weekend, maybe not. Only time will tell.

Bailey Update

Bailey is doing much better now. She seems to almost be back to her usual self, chasing the cats and wanting to play. She still gives me that 'look' every now and again, especially after I give her her medicine.

My guilt chip is in overdrive

Bailey is home after her surgery yesterday - and the pitiful looks I've been getting are making me even more guilty than before. I feel so bad for her and yet there's not much I can do to make things better. She was better this morning than she was last night.

And I'll be calling Joe in a bit so that he knows *not* to bring Colby. Bailey isn't supposed to get too excited over the next few days and it'll be bad enough with everyone over.

Hmmm...

Weekend Update

Friday:

Decided to skip drinkies - had a a couple of glasses of wine at home instead - and took a nap, since we were headed to a late movie. Saw the new Harry Potter movie and was severely disappointed. The movie isn't bad if you have never read the book, but (spoiler here) the hippogrif does *NOT* save Harry and Hermione from the werewolf - that was a liberty taken by the screenwriter. Actually, there are quite a number of things that happen in this movie that do not happen in the book and vice versa. And my biggest pet peeve with this movie is the fact that they decided to "rearrange" the school, even though it's been the same for the past two movies.

Saturday saw me up too early but I had a lot to do before the evening activities. I got everything rearranged the way I wanted it for the gaming session - without the need of a second pair of hands to move the futon out of the office. Headed over to the Line-X dealer for Steve's coming home surprise. No, he's not coming home early, but I wanted to be sure I got it done while we still had the money. I know he'll be happy with the way it turned out - it looks great.

Saturday evening was game time. Not a whole lot to really report, there wasn't a single fight really, mostly info gathering. But unfortunately for them, they are about to be in a spot of trouble - on a number of different fronts. It looks as though they will end up in a number of different battles before the next game is done. Fair warning folks, you've gotten yourselves two very powerful enemies to contend with now. Bwah-ha-haaa

Sunday was brunch at the HoE per usual and the start of the summer season of bowling. This summer, we're doing a doubles league, which should prove interesting. Mike and I are paired up, with the aptly named team of "The Instigators." I predict that Bob and RJ will end up in first place, since they're handicap is going to be so damned high, it's like they have a third bowler.

After bowling, and subsequent trip to Uncle Louie's for appetizers and the all important dessert, I headed home for some quality outside time with Bailey and the swing. This is most definitely going to be a wonderful summer in the backyard. Did take down the net finally.

Tonight, I am supposed to be youthifying Bob, but we may need to postpone a day (call me Viv), since I forgot that Lelu and Gomez have a vet appointment tonight at 7pm. And tomorrow night, I'll be dropping Countess Bailey off at the vet (won't take long, Viv) for her surgery on Wednesday. (Yay, a Bailey free night!)

Other updates: Tish and Lelu seem to be getting along better with Senor Gomez. I actually caught Lelu playing with him the other day, though I don't think she realized that I saw. Gomez is getting braver around Bailey - who really would like to play with him - and isn't really using his claws against her...yet.

I've still got a few things to eliminate from the office before I can get in there and start working in there with earnest. But the biggest thing that needs to go, I'm going to need help with. Mmmmm...seeing as this Thursday is Bob's dinner night at my house, I may get the opportunity to have a little help. :)

That's all folks, until next time. Same bat time, same bat station.

Dr. Seuss style America, 2003

(Got this in an email from Tracy - author unknown)

The Whos down in Whoville liked this country a lot,
But the Grinch in the White House most certainly did not.
He didn't arrive there by the will of the Whos,
But stole the election that he really did lose.
Vowed to "rule from the middle," then installed his regime.
(Did this really happen, or is it just a bad dream?)

He didn't listen to voters, just his friends he was pleasin'
Now, please don't ask why, who knows what's the reason.
It could be his heart wasn't working just right.
It could be, perhaps, that he wasn't too bright.
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
Is that both brain and heart were two sizes too small.
In times of great turmoil, this was bad news,
To have a government that ignores all its Whos.

But the Whos shrugged their shoulders, went on with their work,
Their duties as citizens so casually did shirk.
They shopped at the mall and watched their T.V.
They drove their gas guzzling big S.U.V.,
Oblivious to what was going on in D.C.,
Ignoring the threats to democracy.
They read the same papers that ran the same leads,
Reporting what only served corporate needs.
(For the policies affecting the lives of all nations
Were made by the giant U.S. Corporations.)
Big business grew fatter, fed by its own greed,
And by people who shopped for the things they don't need.

Then amidst all the apathy came signs of unrest,
The Whos came to see we were fouling our nest.
And the people who cared for the ideals of this nation
Began to discuss and exchange information:
About things that weren't found in the corporate-owned news,
Of FTAA meetings and CIA coups,
Of drilling for oil and restricting rights.
They published some books, created Websites,
Began to write letters, and use their e-mail
(Though Homeland Security might send them to jail!)

What began as a whisper soon grew to a roar,
These things going on they could no longer ignore.
They started to rise up and fight City Hall
And their voices were heard, they rose to the call,
To vote, to petition, to gather, dissent,
To question the policies of the "President."

As greed gained in power that didn't know shame
The Whos came together, sang "Not in our name!"
One by one from their sleep and their slumber they woke
The old and the young, all kinds of folk,
The black, brown and white, the gay, bi- and straight,
All united to sing, "Feed our hope, not our hate!
Stop stockpiling weapons and aiming for war!
Stop feeding the rich, start feeding the poor!
Stop storming the deserts to fuel SUV's!
Stop telling us lies on the mainstream T.V.'s!
Stop treating our children as a market to sack!
Stop feeding them Barney, Barbie and Big Mac!
Stop trying to addict them to lifelong consuming,
In a time when severe global warming is looming!
Stop sanctions that are killing the kids in Iraq!
Start dealing with ours that are strung out on crack!"

A mighty sound started to rise and to grow,
"The old way of thinking simply must go!
Enough of God versus Allah, Muslim vs. Jew
With what lies ahead, it simply won't do.
No American dream that cares only for wealth
Ignoring the need for community health.
The rivers and forests are demanding their pay,
If we're to survive, we must walk a new way.
No more excessive and mindless consumption
Let's sharpen our minds and garner our gumption.
For the ideas are simple, but the practice is hard,
And not to be won by a poem on a card.
It needs the ideas and the acts of each Who,
So let's get together and plan what to do!"

And so they all gathered from all 'round the Earth
And from it all came a miraculous birth.
The hearts and the minds of the Whos they did grow,
Three sizes to fit what they felt and they know.
While the Grinches they shrank from their hate and their greed,
Bearing the weight of their every foul deed.

From that day onward the standard of wealth,
Was whatever fed the Whos spiritual health.
They gathered together to revel and feast,
And thanked all who worked to conquer their beast.
For although our story pits Grinches 'gainst Whos,
The true battle lies in what we daily choose.
For inside each Grinch is a tiny small Who,
And inside each Who is a tiny Grinch too.
One thrives on love and one thrives on greed.
Who will win out? It depends who you feed!

Weekend Update

An all around great weekend. Friday was drinkies as usual (thank goodness) then on to some much needed time with Steve. By the by, for those who don't know yet, I received a bit of a bonus on Friday (damn that Harry). It's smokey gray with four white paws. The boss brought in the cutest kitten who needed a home, because he has enough animals right now but didn't want to see it end up at the SPCA. We were lucky enough to end up with Sir Gomez of Arbor Mist. And no, Morticia and Lelu are not pleased with this new edition. Bailey is happy to have someone else to play with, but Gomez is not so pleased. It is cute, though, to watch Lelu and/or Morticia hiss at him. He just sits there with this look on his face like, "Why you making all that noise, woman?" As soon as he stops trying to feast on my necklace and ears at 3am, all will be good.

Saturday was just a frickin' joy to behold. Got up fairly early and dropped off the car for some needed service. Steve and I then stopped off at Denny's for foodage, and then headed across the street to Homo Depot for a few last minute things before we could put up the shed. After picking up the car, stopped over at Mike's to pick him up so he could help with the "shed project from hell." The four of us (Mike, Steve, Bob, and I) did a wonderful job in getting the floor, four walls, and roof (woof) together with very few injuries. Todd was a godsend by stopping to get us some food on his way over. After the vultures were done devouring their kill, it was back to putting the shed together. We didn't do too badly, though it's not exactly square. Frankly, I'm just glad it stands upright. There were only a few things left to do when we decided to call it a night.

Sunday, poor Steve had duty and missed the wonderful brunch at No Frill (yummy French Toast, horrid children). Then the four of us (this time Mike, Bob, Chas, and I) headed back to the house to shingle the bitch (just 3 more shingles, Bob) and put some of the braces on the door. I must say, Mike was more 'manly' this past weekend than I have ever seen him - that testosterone was just a'flowing! Robin, you'd be so proud!! There were a few injuries - well, for three of us - but nothing really significant. While Mike, Chas, and Todd took in the scenery and food at the best Applebee's in the world (it's on the base!), Bob and I worked on getting some food ready for the BBQ on Monday and had a chance to talk. Apparently, therapy has been very good for him and really makes me want to go myself. I think I could use a few - okay, a LOT - of sessions and work on some issues that I think are really impeding on my growth. (Bob, do you get a referral discount?)

Monday was the day. Had to rise early to go and fetch Steve from the boat, then on to Joe's Wally World for a few last minute items for the BBQ. We had everything ready (gazebo up and tables cleaned) when people started arriving. Then there was the fun of getting the volleyball/badminton net up. All in all, I know I had a good time. The food was good (could have had second and third helpings of the strawberry shortcake!) and the company even better. Next time, I'm wearing sneakers to play badminton - or raking the frickin' yard! But, I'm hoping to get our revenge, um, I mean rematch, against Bob and Chas soon - after a few more tree limbs are taken down! Unfortunately, one injury - damn the fuckin' CutCo shit - but I'm hoping things will be better in a few days. (Steve is still trying to convince me to go to Medical, but I'd rather not since they aren't really going to do shit for me.) No, it's nothing really serious and thankfully I cut my left hand and not the right.

Now I need a day off to recover. :)
